Nicole Kidman’s Deceptively Simple Outfit Deserves Fall Icon Status

Meg Ryan and Diane Keaton are the two patron saints of autumn. And this weekend, Nicole Kidman channeled both icons in an easy-to-recreate fall outfit.

The Academy Award-winning actress attended a screening of her new movie, Babygirl, at New York’s Crosby Street Hotel. For the event, Kidman wore a tight black turtleneck, oversized, menswear-inspired trousers, and black loafers. The outfit reminded us of two fall movies, both famous for their fashion choices.

Kidman’s top resembled the many turtlenecks Meg Ryan wore as bookseller Kathleen Kelly in You’ve Got Mail. When she discovers Fox Books is opening up in her neighborhood, she pairs one underneath a brown shift dress. And, for a cocktail party, she wears a black turtleneck in dress form. Kidman’s pants, meanwhile, are all Annie Hall, with their baggy, straight-legged fit, high waist, and neutral tone. The actress took these two fall staple pieces and combined them in an outfit that is both simple and put-together.

As for accessories, Kidman went without any jewelry, making the look more casual. She also wore her hair down and slightly messy, with natural, glowing makeup.

While Kidman’s outfit evoked cozy fall rom-coms, the movie she’s promoting is far from a Norah Ephron picture. Babygirl is an erotic thriller starring Kidman as a CEO who begins an affair with one of her company’s interns. The movie features Harris Dickinson as the intern, along with Antonio Banderas. Babygirl is, somewhat counterintuitively, set for a Christmas Day theatrical release.

Kidman attended the screening just a few days after her daughter with Keith Urban, Sunday Rose Kidman Urban, made her runway debut at Miu Miu’s spring/summer 2025 show in Paris. The same day as the show, Kidman and Kidman Urban both also attended a dinner hosted by the brand. The pair both wore full Miu Miu looks that veered towards preppy, with Kidman in a black and white tartan kilt and her 16-year-old in a polo and miniskirt.
