Celebrate 70 years since Elvis first performed in Shreveport at ceremony and concert

Did you know that October 16 will officially be 70 years since Elvis Presley’s first appearance on the Louisiana Hayride at the Municipal Auditorium in 1954?

That’s something that Dianne Harmon, president of the Elvis’ Angels Fan Club – since it started in Shreveport in 1997 – is looking forward to celebrating.

She and Dave Gore of Keeping It Country Live out of Nashville are co-hosting a celebration on Wednesday.

The celebration will begin with a 6 p.m. ceremony on the front steps of the Shreveport Municipal Auditorium at 605 Grand Ave. which will include a proclamation from Mayor Tom Arceneaux.

The celebration continues at 7:30 p.m. at the Louisiana Grandstand inside the Woman’s Department Club at 802 Margaret Place in Shreveport.
