Conservation policies must address an overlooked issue: how war affects the environment

Ahead of COP16 of the Convention on Biological Diversity we worked with the Zoological Society of London (ZSL), Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine and WWF Colombia on a Nature commentary on nature, peace and conflict.

In it we argue that the Colombian presidency of COP16 and Susana Muhamad’s Paz Con La Naturaleza initiative is a huge opportunity to begin to integrate peace and security considerations into the implementation of the Global Biodiversity Framework, to encourage research and to operationalise the Convention on Biological Diversity to support biodiversity protection in fragile and conflict-affected countries.
