Ferrari unveils F80: a USD 3.9 million hybrid supercar

Ferrari has unveiled its latest masterpiece, the F80 supercar, at its headquarters in Maranello, Italy. This limited edition vehicle, priced at a staggering 3.6 million euros (USD 3.9 million) base price, represents the pinnacle of Ferrari’s engineering prowess and market strategy.

The F80, a hybrid supercar featuring butterfly doors, is positioned as the new flagship in Ferrari’s illustrious lineup. Enrico Galliera, Ferrari’s Chief Marketing and Commercial Officer, emphasised the car’s significance during its presentation, stating, “It’s a car we hope would make history in coming years.” This launch is a crucial part of Ferrari’s model roll-out strategy, designed to maintain engagement with its affluent clientele while the company prepares for its first all-electric vehicle debut, slated for late 2025.

Only 799 units of the F80 will be produced, a number that has already been fully allocated to select customers. The demand for this exclusive supercar has been overwhelming, with requests tripling the planned production volume. This scarcity has led to the unusual situation where Ferrari must decline potential buyers, a testament to the car’s desirability and the brand’s prestige.

The F80’s engineering is a tour de force of automotive technology. At its heart lies a six-cylinder, three-litre full-hybrid engine that delivers an astounding 1,200 horsepower. This powerplant is not merely new; it’s an evolution of Ferrari’s racing heritage, based on the same architecture used in their World Endurance Championship vehicles – where the company has clinched victories in the last two editions of the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The supercar’s design and features are equally impressive. It boasts racing brake pads, state-of-the-art active suspension, and ultra-light 3D-printed metal parts, including suspension arms. These components underscore Ferrari’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of automotive engineering and manufacturing. The interior layout is uniquely asymmetrical, with the driver’s seat positioned slightly ahead of the passenger’s, enhancing the car’s racing-inspired design.

Performance-wise, the F80 is set to redefine expectations for road-legal supercars. With a top speed of 350 kilometres per hour (approximately 217 mph), it promises to deliver an exhilarating driving experience that combines the best of endurance racing and Formula 1 technologies.

The F80’s debut marks a significant milestone in Ferrari’s supercar lineage. It follows in the footsteps of iconic models like the LaFerrari (2013) and its open-top variant, the LaFerrari Aperta (2016). The lineage traces back four decades to the legendary GTO, launched in 1984. Each of these supercars represents a once-in-a-decade offering from Ferrari, embodying the most innovative technological features of their time.

Production and delivery schedules for the F80 have been meticulously planned. The first units are expected to reach customers in the fourth quarter of 2025, with production continuing until late 2027 – a symbolic timeline coinciding with Ferrari’s 80th anniversary.

The unveiling of the F80 comes at a strategic time for Ferrari. As the automotive industry undergoes a seismic shift towards electrification, Ferrari is carefully balancing its rich heritage in combustion engine technology with the need to innovate for a sustainable future. The F80, with its hybrid powertrain, serves as a bridge between these two worlds, showcasing Ferrari’s ability to blend traditional performance with forward-thinking technology.

This launch also reinforces Ferrari’s position in the ultra-luxury car market. By creating vehicles that are not just modes of transportation but also works of art and engineering marvels, Ferrari continues to command premium prices and maintain its exclusivity.
