CALEXICO — The City of Calexico and Calexico Recreation Department remind the public that the deadline to submit proposals for the 2024 Mural Project is Monday, October 28.

The Calexico Recreation Department said the goal is to create a community mural project that will promote the creative expression of local artists and provide an enriching visual experience to residents and visitors of Calexico.

Submissions must include a rendering of the proposed mural on paper no smaller than tabloid size 11”x 17” and presented on a poster board/cardboard. The submission of pictures of previous mural installations is highly encouraged and will help in the selection process.

Complete application packet and artwork rendering must be submitted to the Calexico Recreation Department by 5:00 p.m. on October 28.

Incomplete applications will be disqualified.

The artistic theme for Site A is Stories, fairy tales, books, fantasy, and education.

The themes for sites B and C are open. Open themes are intentionally offered to encourage artistic interpretation and produce the widest diversity of ideas and visual impact possible. Proposed art can’t be used for commercial publicity purposes.

Up to three artists may be selected, one per site location.

This program is open to artists over the age of 18 who possess a valid social security number. Only one submittal per person is allowed.
