The Upton, a new apartment complex on Edgewood Avenue in the Chosewood Park neighborhood, is seeking proposals from artists across the country for its residency program, “Grounded-In-Your-Light.”
Curated by Gallery Residential, the 18-month residency offers complimentary rent in exchange for artists to create their work and participate in scheduled events three times a month.
Selected artists will receive a stipend, accommodation, and public exposure and engagement opportunities. Artists should submit their CV/resume, portfolio or samples of previous work, a detailed proposal for the “Grounded-In-Your-Light” theme, and two professional references to [email protected].
According to a press release, the residency “aims to explore and interpret the concepts of Bohemian spirit, grounded playfulness, and personal illumination through artistic expression.”
Artists working in the visual arts, sculpture, musical performances, and culinary arts are all encouraged to apply.
Artist Lacey Longino, a mixed-media painter and muralist known for her bright, imaginative works that combine funky patterns with realistic portraits, was part of the first cohort of Gallery Residential’s artists-in-residence at a different property. She credits the program with helping her buy her home and jump-start her career path. She is committed to creating a piece at The Upton.
“I am thrilled to be part of The Upton’s program,” Longino said in the news release. “This theme of ‘Grounded-In-Your-Light’ resonates deeply with my artistic journey. I look forward to creating a piece that inspires introspection and connection within the community.”
