Men’s Tennis Dazzles During Annual UTC Steve Baras Fall Invite, Features Doubles Champions & Multiple Flight Winners – University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Athletics

CHATTANOOGA – The Chattanooga Mocs men’s tennis team dazzled and featured numerous flight winners across the board over the weekend during its annual UTC Steve Baras Fall Invite held on campus at the UTC Tennis Center Friday through Sunday.

Chattanooga secured five flights, earned a championship in doubles action, and notched four singles victories during its prestigious mid-south event. The annual fall event will be the final competition for the program until the 2024 spring season.

“It was certainly a great weekend of strong tennis. We played stronger and stronger each and every day. We are a better team than when we started the weekend,” said head coach Chuck Merzbacher.

Jakub Jupa and Peyton Gatti continued their dynamic doubles play with a championship effort in Flight A of the doubles portion of the event. The duo posted a 6-2 victory over Samford’s Santiago Arredondo and Darcy Nicholls in the title match following wins over tandems from Austin Peay and Lipscomb in the first two rounds.

In singles, the Mocs featured four flight winners in Jupa, Cortland Grove, Ethan Carr and Quinten Nevenhoven. Carter Ramthun also secured a round robin title after going a perfect 3-0 in Flight G of the weekend-long event.

“I am super proud of everyone on this team and how they competed in every match throughout the weekend,” Merzbacher added.

“Obviously, winning five flights, one doubles championship, and four singles titles, that certainly highlighted the event. We have a lot to build on!”
