PHILADELPHIA – The Saint Joseph’s women’s tennis team finished the fall portion of its slate this weekend at the Dragon Invitational, hosted by Drexel University.
In the hidden dual event, the Hawks took on participants from both Drexel and Hofstra. In action against the host Dragons on Saturday, Brooke Tackett earned a singles win, topping Beatriz Ibrahim by a 6-2, 1-7, 7-6 (4) score.
The Hawks turned in a strong performance against Hofstra on Sunday, sweeping the three doubles matches and winning six out of seven singles contests.
Fabiana Tort-Umpierre and Victoria Tracey teamed up for a 6-1 win in the top flight, while Tackett and Kirsten Wijnsema were 6-3 winners in the second. Ireland Amato and Sophia Amato finished off the sweep with a 6-1 result in the third flight.
In singles play, Tracey cruised to a 6-4, 6-0 win in the first flight before Charlotte Kordonowy won a 6-4, 6-2 contest in the second. Tort-Umpierre and Wijnsema earned wins in the third and fourth flights by respective 6-1, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-3 scores. Ireland Amato cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win in the sixth flight and Ana Ocasio was a 6-2, 6-1 winner in the seventh to close out an excellent performance up and down the lineup.
“The Hawks played well on Sunday and made up for a lethargic performance on Saturday,” interim head coach Ian Crookenden said. “We’re happy to have a sweep of the doubles matches today and conclude our fall season on a high note.”
