The Karnataka Residential Educational Institutions Society (KREIS) and Nourishing Schools Foundation (NSF) have partnered to promote nutrition education in 20 schools across Kalaburagi and Belagavi districts. This toolkit-based program, piloted on October 28, will continue through December 2026, aiming to instill healthy habits in students through interactive activities and games.
Archana Sinha, NSF’s founder, explained, “The program empowers children to lead their well-being journey. Through data-driven approaches, we address specific needs like handwashing and balanced diets, identified through initial surveys.” Sinha, who has championed nutrition since 2012, noted that despite income growth, nutritional awareness remains low, often leading to increased fat intake without balanced protein consumption.
Saileela Malladi, consultant advisor at KREIS, emphasized the project’s focus on hygiene and menstrual health education, especially benefiting children from underprivileged backgrounds. With nearly 800 KREIS schools serving marginalized communities, this pilot project—supported by Major Manivannan and KREIS executive director Kantharaj—represents a step toward enhanced health and well-being for Karnataka’s youth.
