Window on a Wider World (WOWW), dedicated to enriching the education of Texas Panhandle students through arts, science, and cultural experiences, has announced its 11th annual Youth Art Show.
The artwork will be on display from Nov. 11 through Nov. 16 and features the talent of students throughout the Texas panhandle region.
According to the announcement from WOWW, more than half the school districts within Region 16 have no visual arts program, and the nonprofit is filling the gap by offering an annual juried art show. “The WOWW Youth Art Show was created to ignite a passion for the arts in students across the Texas Panhandle. Elementary and secondary students will share their artistic talents with the public, realize their potential to become artists, and meet other students who also share their creative and imaginative talent,” the announcement says. “By participating in the WOWW Youth Art Show, students receive hands-on experiential learning allowing them to create the cultural landscape of their community.”
The Youth Art Show also allows families from small rural towns to visit the Arts at Sunset Center for a formal exhibit, and parents and grandparents love seeing their students’ amazing artwork and being part of the arts culture in our community, WOWW said. Last fall, 39 schools participated with students and their families traveling to Amarillo for the art exhibition.Winners in three categories (fourth through fifth grade; sixth through eighth grade, and ninth through 12th grade) will be announced at the awards ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 16th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The awards ceremony allow visitors to view the artwork, meet the artists, and enjoy light hors de oeuvres and drinks.
The art competition is hosted by WOWW and is not affiliated with the Texas University Interscholastic League (UIL). All Texas Panhandle students are encouraged to participate.
The nonprofit organization was founded in 2006 to enrich the education of Texas Panhandle students through art, science, and cultural experiences. Today, the organization works with 63 learning partners, offers 150 programs, and works with 49 schools and more than 8,000 students.
