Local author Shane McGarrett will speak about facing new challenges at the 4 p.m. Nov. 15 AAUW general meeting at Community Congregational Church’s Fellowship Hall.

This is presented by AAUW and is open to the public.

If you don’t know McGarrett, then you have not met this force to be reckoned with. A feminist from birth, she was the first woman to be certified as a jet engine mechanic at March Air Force Base. Her Air Force story and more is in her book, “Out of Service.”

After four years with the Air Force, McGarrett continues to work in a “man’s world” at Lockheed as an inspector with security clearance. She will weave an interesting tale about the strength and courage it took to get where she is today, working in a male-dominated field.
