Moorpark Civic Ballet and Dance Theatre has teamed up with the Boys & Girls Club of Moorpark and Simi Valley for a presentation of the holiday classic “The Nutcracker” in Thousand Oaks.

Committed to providing a theatrical avenue for young dancers and professional dancers “to be a part of a wonderful dance experience,” MCB is staging the musical at 6:30 p.m. Thurs., Dec. 12 at the Kavli Theater, 2100 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd.

“This partnership is a testament to the organizations’ commitment to making the performing arts accessible to all, fostering cultural enrichment and education in the community,” said Sandra Howe, MCB board member.

BGC officials are equally excited.

“When Sandra approached me with this opportunity, I felt it was a great way to share the joy and importance of the arts in enriching lives,” said Scott Mosher, CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of Moorpark and Simi Valley. “For nearly a decade, this partnership has been a beacon for us all and one that we look forward to.”

The upcoming annual performance will feature more than 70 dancers and special guest appearances of the Prince and Sugar Plum Fairy.

The dance role of Clara will be performed by 13-year-old Charlie Hoppel, a student at Mesa Verde Middle School in Moorpark and dancer from Gotta Dance Academy.

“It is such a privilege to lead this production and watch these dancers take the stage with such commitment,” said Val Manchin, artistic director for MCB.

Tickets are available from the Civic Arts Center box office by calling (805) 449-2787 or through Ticketmaster.

Organizers say this collaboration not only presents “The Nutcracker,” but also the spirit of community and the joy of the arts. Local businesses and individuals are encouraged to support the initiative through donations and sponsorships.
