The Norfolk Arts Center is offering a bonanza of opportunities in November. From a parade of trees to watercolor instruction, there’s a bit of something for anyone looking for a creative outlet.
Traditionally, the NAC hosts an opening reception for the artists on display in the galleries. Because of artist scheduling complexities, there will be a closing reception for the current displays. The public is invited to the closing reception of artists Holly Kranker and John Cohorst’s exhibition, which has been featured in the main gallery since Sept. 5. Also going off display is atrium artist Brian Finn’s collection. The reception is Friday, Nov. 22, from 5 to 7 p.m. It will be your last chance to see the pieces and talk to the artists. The next exhibition will open on Thursday, Dec. 5, and will feature the works of Jordyne Vanselow and Riley Farah.
For those looking to get into the holiday spirit, the NAC Ladies Guild is hosting its annual fall luncheon on Thursday, Nov. 14. Included in the festivities is a special early viewing of the Parade of Trees. Each tree is sponsored and decorated by a local business. The trees will officially be on display for the public from Nov. 15 to Nov. 27. More holiday spirit is on the way in December, with the Norfolk Area Chamber Singers concert, “Sing Noel.”
Upcoming art workshops this month include glass jewelry making led by Mike Fluent, watercolor with Telagio Baptista and Wine and Paint with Karen Voborny. Kids and families can have fun together making colorful slime. High school students will work with Fluent as part of the free ArtistsDriven program. In December, the ArtistsDriven students will learn the art of large-scale drawing with muralist Adam Boggs.
If you are interested in a workshop, sign up sooner rather than later. Some classes have minimum registration requirements.
Admission to the NAC is free and open to the public. In addition to gallery exhibitions, the NAC supports artists by selling their work. The Artist Corner is a good place to shop for unique hand-crafted gifts, including pottery, stationery and jewelry. You also will find books by local authors and NAC merchandise.
