The Weis Center for the Performing Arts will feature “MAROONED! A Space Comedy” on Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Weis Center.

The performance is described as an innovative new puppet show that features music from the Voyager Golden Record — What NASA calls the 12-inch gold-plated copper disk that contains sounds and images chosen to represent Earth and affixed to the Voyager 1 and 2 when the space crafts launched in the 1970s — and takes place at the outer reaches of space.

An astronaut traveling 87,000 light years into space crash-lands on an uncharted planet where she must resort to emergency measures to seek rescue. Will she be able to survive strange creatures, an anomalous atmosphere and isolation in order to find her way home?

From the award-winning team Alex and Olmsted, “MAROONED! A Space Comedy” is a show where elegant puppetry design meets joyful, meaningful storytelling.

Live performance, shadow puppetry and marionettes shine to delightful effect in a production that is “Achingly beautiful…” according to the Maryland Theatre Guide, and the DC Theatre Scene calls it “…amusing, charming, delightful and, at times, utterly and completely astonishing.”

This Jim Henson Foundation grant awarded show is puppetry life support of the best kind — at just the right moment.

The performance is 60 minutes without an intermission and is appropriate for all ages.

This engagement is made possible through the Mid Atlantic Tours program of the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation with support from the National Endowment for the Arts. The performance is sponsored, in part, by WBRE.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $16 for seniors 62+ and subscribers, $10 for youth 18 and under, $10 for Bucknell employees and retirees, free for Bucknell students and $10 for non-Bucknell students.
