Montreal arts and culture scene: End of semester highlights


A few cultural events to take your mind off finals!

With the end of the semester fast approaching and the new year right around the corner, there are plenty of cultural events, festivals and opportunities in Montreal. Be sure not to miss out on any of the fun activities going on.

Christmas Markets

Montreal’s Great Christmas Market is returning from Nov. 22 to Dec. 30 at Quartier des Spectacles. Enjoy exhibitions and free animations, as well as festive food and drinks. Check out their website for more information.

Le Collectif Créatif Montréal is a group of Montreal artisans and designers. They are hosting the third edition of their Marché des Fêtes at Locoshop Angus over two weekends, Nov. 25 to Nov. 26 and Dec. 2 to Dec. 3. 

Marché Public de Montréal is inviting you to the Jean-Talon market on Dec. 7 to Dec. 8 and Dec. 14 to Dec. 15 to enjoy good food, and outdoor and indoor activities such as meeting Santa Claus, ornament decoration workshop and much more. Check out their website for more.

Montreal Christmas Village is back for its eighth edition at Atwater Market from Nov. 28 to Dec. 22 with local artisans and products to set the perfect holiday magic.

Exhibitions

The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts  has been hosting their new permanent exhibition since Nov. 8. ᐆᒻᒪᖁᑎᒃ uummaqutik: essence de la vie celebrates and highlights the cultural and artistic Inuit lifestyle.

FoFA Gallery is hosting the Ilagit/Relatives exhibition until Dec. 6, featuring contemporary Inuit artists. 

Festivals

The Arab World Festival is back for the 25th year of  “dreaming in colour” until Nov. 23, featuring diverse Arab artists, filmmakers and thinkers with a special focus on those who were caught in the center of geopolitical conflicts. For the activity schedule, check out their website.

Theatre and Concerts

The Museum of Jewish Montreal is inviting Theatre Dybbuk from Los Angeles to perform a series of live presentations from Nov. 14 to Nov. 18, a first in Canada.

FILMharmonic Orchestra is presenting Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas in Concert, led by Maestro Erik Ochsner, on Nov. 30 at Place des Arts. ​​ 

Events

Society of Arts and Technology, a Montreal-based non-profit organization internationally recognized for its technological advancement of  “immersive creation, mixed realities and telepresence,” will transform Espace SAT, in Quartier des Spectacles, into its first Roller Disco event on Nov. 24. Professional or amateur, everyone is welcome to join in the fun. Look up their website for more information.

The Read Quebec Book Fair will take place in Little Italy from Dec. 7 to Dec. 8, with tons of newly published local work and authors.

Salon du Livre is back at Palais des Congrès from Nov. 27 to Dec. 1, an amazing experience for bookworms to discover new authors and books to add to their 2025 reading list. They are also hosting events all around the city and online, so make sure to check their website.

Submission

Headlight Anthology, an annual student-run journal at Concordia, is calling for poetry, prose and creative non-fiction submissions for its 26th issue. The deadline is on Nov. 22 at 11:59 p.m.
