At an event held in conjunction with the Los Angeles Auto Show, Genesis unveiled the 2026 GV70. We attended the presentation to learn about the mid-cycle upgrades to this compact luxury SUV, which is available in internal combustion engine and electric versions.
New features for the GV70 Electric too
With this major update, the Genesis GV70 Electrified promises to remain competitive. First of all, the area around the charging port has been revised. A heating element has been added to make it easier to open and close in cold weather. Moreover, it’s exclusively equipped with the NACS (North American Charging Standard) charging port.
The battery capacity has also been increased from 77.4 kWh to 84 kWh, which should extend its range. No official figures have been released yet. However, on the presentation model, the dashboard indicated a charge of 88%, corresponding to a range of 365 kilometres. This could translate into a total range of 415 kilometres. According to official data provided by Natural Resources Canada, the range of the 2025 Genesis GV70 is 380 kilometres.
The manufacturer claims that the range can be increased from 10 to 80% on a 350-kW terminal in 19 minutes.
A few cosmetic changes
A closer look at the 2026 Genesis GV70 reveals a few cosmetic changes. The front grille and headlights have been redesigned, as have the indicators at the rear. New 19- and 21-inch wheels are available with the GV70. The colour palette has been enhanced with the addition of Ceres Blue.
The compact luxury SUV has received some technological upgrades inside. It now features a 27-inch OLED screen that includes both the instrumentation and the infotainment system controls. The petrol model will remain available in four cabin colours in 2026.
Under the bonnet of the 2026 Genesis GV70
Mechanically, the 2026 Genesis GV70 remains unchanged. It continues to come standard with the 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Consumers can opt for the twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre V6 engine. These develop 300 and 375 bhp respectively. The manufacturer has also added a driving mode selector (snow, mud and sand).
For now, the price range and official fuel consumption figures for the 2026 Genesis GV70 remain unknown.
The manufacturer expects the first examples of the 2026 Genesis GV70 to arrive in participating dealerships in the first half of 2025.
