The USDA has announced details of the agency’s recent purchase of nearly $600,000 of fresh apples for distribution to nutrition programs.
The purchase results from offers received in response to a USDA solicitation published on Oct. 23. The fresh apples were purchased on an fob destination basis, with deliveries scheduled from Dec. 6 this year to March 26, 2025.
The USDA said the purchase included several varieties of apples, including empire, gala, granny smith and red delicious.
The purchase totaled 29,260 40-pound cartons with a value of $577,973, according to the USDA notice. The range in fob fresh apple prices was from $16.88 to $22 per carton, the USDA said.
According to the USDA, vendors awarded contracts to supply the fresh apples include:
- EB Trading Group LLC, Wenatchee, Wash.
- Farm Fresh First LLC, Oakland, N.Y.
- North Bay Produce Inc., Traverse City, Mich.
- Rogers Orchards, Inc., Southington, Conn.
- Ruby Robinson Co., Buffalo Grover, Ill.
