2025 Kia EV6 Showcases Range of Improvements Including Larger Battery at Los Angeles Auto Show

Kia unveiled the refreshed 2025 EV6 at the Los Angeles Auto Show, showcasing enhancements to refine its electric crossover without deviating from its original success. Updates include a new battery lineup with an improved range, expanded technology offerings, and subtle design revisions that bring the EV6 in line with the brand’s latest styling language. With a stronger focus on practicality and connectivity, the updated EV6 seeks to solidify its place in the increasingly crowded electric vehicle market.

Battery Capacity Improvements

2025 EV6

One of the most significant updates for the 2025 Kia EV6 is its revised battery options. A new 63.0 kWh battery now serves as the standard offering, paired with a single rear motor producing 167 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque.

For those prioritizing range, an 84.0 kWh battery is available on Light Long Range (LR), Wind, and GT-Line trims. In its rear-wheel-drive (RWD) configuration, this larger battery pack is estimated to provide up to 513 kilometres (319 miles) of all-electric range, making it one of the more competitive options in its segment. All-wheel-drive (AWD) versions with the larger battery add a second motor to achieve a combined 320 horsepower and 446 lb.-ft. of torque. This trim should continue to be the most popular in Canada and supply around 454 kilometres of all-electric range.

The high-performance EV6 GT remains the flagship of the lineup. Powered by dual motors with an upgraded system output, the EV6 GT now produces 641 horsepower and 568 lb.-ft. of torque when in its GT mode. This marks a boost over the 2024 model’s 576 horsepower. Additionally, the GT includes a new Virtual Gear Shift system that simulates traditional gear changes through visual, auditory, and tactile feedback, enhancing the driving experience for enthusiasts. Despite its focus on speed, all EV6 models continue to feature Kia’s 800-volt fast-charging architecture, enabling a 10-80% charge in under 25 minutes when using a DC fast charger. On the other hand, Kia didn’t say anything about improving the range of the GT trim to make it more competitive.

Other Notable Improvements: Design, Technology, and Convenience

2025 EV6

The 2025 EV6 incorporates design updates inspired by Kia’s “Opposites United” philosophy, maintaining its futuristic aesthetic while introducing subtle refinements. New “Star Map” LED lighting elements, updated front and rear bumpers, and redesigned side mouldings give the EV6 a slightly more angular and dynamic appearance. Depending on the trim, larger 19- to 21-inch wheel designs offer fresh styling options.

According to Kia, a horizontal design theme enhances the sense of spaciousness, while the curved 12.3-inch dual-display setup integrates the digital instrument cluster and infotainment system. Inspired by the larger EV9, the 2025 EV6 now features updated ambient lighting, a redesigned centre console, and a new D-shaped steering wheel for a sportier feel.

The EV6 also introduces Kia’s next-generation Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC), which supports over-the-air (OTA) updates. Drivers can update powertrain software, navigation, and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) features without visiting a dealership. The Kia Connect Store offers additional digital services like streaming, gaming, and a Wi-Fi hotspot, allowing buyers to customize their in-car experience. Moreover, a new ultrawideband-based Digital Key 2.0 allows drivers to use their smartphones or NFC-enabled smart cards to lock, unlock, and start the vehicle without needing a physical key.

Advanced driver assistance features have been expanded for 2025. Updates include Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist 2, which now detects vehicles at intersections and supports evasive steering when necessary. Highway Driving Assist 2 enables semi-autonomous lane changes and adaptive speed control on compatible highways. Parking features such as Remote Smart Parking Assist and Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist have also been improved, while flush-mounted automatic door handles are now standard across the lineup.

Conclusion: Refining a Proven Formula

The 2025 Kia EV6 doesn’t aim to reinvent itself but instead builds on an already successful foundation. With its updated battery options, expanded technology, and thoughtful design changes, the EV6 is a well-rounded choice in the competitive electric vehicle market. It caters to a wide range of buyers, from those focused on range and efficiency to those seeking high performance in an electric crossover. The new 2025 EV6 should arrive in dealerships in the second quarter of 2025.
