Arts and craft fairs are can’t-miss events over the holidays

For Karina Hean, New Mexico School for the Arts’ Holiday Art Fair and Sale is about more than peddling the works of young artists.

Hean is the chair of the Santa Fe-based charter school’s visual arts program, which serves nearly 80 of the more than 300 high school students enrolled. Those young artists are clamoring for pre-professional experience, Hean said — including the business know-how the profession requires.

“We’re trying to provide this opportunity to them, while giving them some also initial experiences of signing an agreement and showing up on time and being present,” Hean said of the sale.

NMSA students have been working to complete pieces that will be featured in the Visual Arts Holiday Art Sale, which fundraises for visual art supplies as well as offers students experience in art sales.
