City Life Org – Times Square Arts Celebrates First Midnight Moment Book With Nationwide Programs


Including Three-Day Activation with Art Basel Miami Beach, Presentation at Dallas’s Aurora Biennial, and Artist Talk During Los Angeles Art Week 

Midnight Moment: A Decade of Artists in Times Square – Available Today, November 26, 2024 –

Times Square Arts, the largest public platform for contemporary performance and visual arts, is proud to announce a series of programs and events to celebrate their first book, Midnight Moment: A Decade of Artists in Times Square, published by Monacelli. In the forthcoming months, Times Square Arts will bring Midnight Moment activations across the country, from New York to Miami. 

The Midnight Moment book commemorates over 130 artists whose work has been featured in Times Square Arts’ Midnight Moment program over the past decade. The 232-paged hardcover published by Monacelli, A Phaidon Company, will be available on November 26th, 2024.

Presented nightly to millions of viewers each year, Midnight Moment showcases the work of contemporary artists on one of the world’s most iconic canvases – the electronic billboards of Times Square in New York City, where close to 300,000 pedestrians pass through daily. A collaboration between Times Square Arts and artists – ranging from David HockneyYoko Ono, and Andy Warhol to Shantell MartinNick Cave, and Rashaad Newsome – the program is a coordinated display of cutting-edge moving-image content and has earned the distinction of being the world’s largest and longest-running digital public-art program reaching 1.5 million viewers a year. Synchronized on over 90 billboard screens in the heart of Times Square nightly from 11:57 pm to 12:00 am, Midnight Moment has brought innovative and accessible public art to local and global visitors for more than a decade thanks to the Times Square Advertising Coalition and our participating billboard operators.

For the first time ever, Times Square Arts will bring a curated selection from their signature Midnight Moment program to Miami as part of Art Basel Miami Beach’s public programming. The selection of 3-minute video works will be projected nightly for three nights at SoundScape Park, a 2.5-acre urban park in the cultural and civic heart of Miami Beach. The free open-air program will feature 30 artworks on rotation each evening by past Midnight Moment artists, including Nick CaveLu YangOri GershtErin JohnsonTali Keren and Alex StradaFederico SolmiCarolina CaycedoKambui Olujimi, among others.

In partnership with MacDowell, Times Square Arts is presenting an Artist Talk as a part of the MacDowell Presents series featuring Midnight Moment artists and MacDowell Fellows Pamela Council and Kambui Olujimi and others in conversation at MacDowell’s New York headquarters in Chelsea.

Creative Time and Times Square Arts, two leading public arts organizations in New York, will come together at CTHQ – Creative Time’s gathering space for art and political engagement – to discuss the history of video art takeovers in Times Square. Both Creative Time and Times Square Arts have a long and storied history bringing digital art to the center of New York, including Times Square Arts’ Midnight Moment as well as both Creative Time’s 59th Minute and 44 ½. Come celebrate Midnight Moment and the history of video art, and be a part of the ever-evolving history of New York public art.
