CHAGRIN FALLS, Ohio — Start your holiday season early with fun local events. Shop for one-of-a-kind handmade gifts from about 65 artists and craftsmen at the Avant-Garde Art & Craft Show 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4. The show opens one hour later on Sunday, Nov. 5 at the Chagrin Valley Athletic Club, 17260 Snyder Rd. in Bainbridge Township.
A selection of items includes accessories, clothing, crafted wood pieces, bath and body products and jewelry among other merchandise. Refreshments will be available on site to purchase and enjoy while shopping.
The event is back after a three-year hiatus due to covid restrictions and a change in venue. Admission is $3 for patrons age 12 and older, and free for children younger than 12 when with an adult.
A portion of the proceeds from the event benefit local charities. Started in 2011, the organizers have held about 30 events throughout the Midwest, and have raised and donated nearly $69,000. This year Sebastian’s Playgrounds will benefit from the Chagrin Falls show. It is a non-profit group that raises money to help build inclusive playgrounds for children.
Shop and sip and shop some more: The Chagrin Valley Chamber of Commerce invites you to a fun evening of holiday shopping and socializing 3-7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11 with about 22 merchants and several restaurants and bars participating in Downtown Chagrin Falls.
Each shopper will receive a tasting cup on a lanyard, a passport with participating locations and deals and a shopping bag. Participants can enjoy beer, wine and festive mocktails provided by merchants along the way. Get your passport stamped with a purchase and drop it off at the Visitor’s Center for a chance to win the grand prize raffle.
Participating merchants include Fireside Bookstore, W. Home Collection, Blush Boutique, Inn of Chagrin, The Olive Scene, FIG Chagrin, Toni In Style, The Hidden Closet, Geiger’s Cipok Shoes, Chuck’s Fine Wines, Gypsy Sole, Town & Country Gifts, Hedges Designs, Nouveau Vie, Remnants A Bag Company, Sanity, The Spice & Tea Exchange, Capozzi Design Group, Griffin Gallery, Fortis Sports and Cascades Boutique with the participating bars and restaurants of ETalian, Yours Truly and Pub Frato.

Sip & Shop is a rain or shine event. Alcoholic beverages must be consumed inside the establishments. Participants may want to consider a designated driver for their ride home.
Sixty literary years: The Fireside Book store recently marked its 60th year anniversary. Chagrin Falls Mayor William Tomkin presented a proclamation to the store’s co-owner Lori Muller Zaim on Oct. 23.
Holiday art and craft sale: The public is invited to browse and buy gifts, arts and crafts 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4 at the Hamlet Atrium, Cleveland St. Vendors include: Hamlet resident artists, along with artists and crafters from Chagrin Falls Methodist Church, Chagrin Falls Historical Society and the Orange Senior Center.
Bring your cash and checks only for purchases. There will be a raffle, and gifts from each table will support the Cleveland Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Society.
Art exhibit examines choices: Chagrin Arts is hosting a solo exhibit of figurative paintings by Solon artist Judy Takacs through Nov. 17. The show titled Mothers, Women, Children Choices explores current thoughts on women’s rights. Takacs is an award winning artist. The Gallery is located at 88 North Main St. in Chagrin Falls. Caregivers’ lunch: The Cleveland Area Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association is hosting a luncheon 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9 for caregivers and their loved ones at Camp George Forbes Recreation, 25440 Harvard Rd. in Highland Hills. The event includes family portrait sessions, lunch, testimonials of caregivers and an informational session about free resources for families facing Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia.
