OLEAN, N.Y. — Tri-County Arts Council announced the opening of its new TCAC Youth Art Gallery.
The current exhibit showcases 20 pieces created by two talented young artists, Templeton, 9, and Sara Horn, 6, from Allegany. Their works span a variety of mediums, including watercolor, graphic art and steel.
The establishment of the Youth Gallery was made possible by donors and proceeds from the council’s Fall into Art raffle. The opportunity is open to most regional youth artists and more information is available by contacting Paula Bernstein. To ensure the continued success and sustainability of the gallery for future exhibitions, the council is seeking a corporate sponsor. Contact [email protected] if interested!
Templeton Z. Horn, fourth-grader at Allegany Limestone Elementary, said, “I enjoy doing art because there is no grade on it, there is no wrong answer and anyone can do it if they set their mind to it. Art relaxes my mind and takes it away from other stressful stuff like homework or chores. I recommend other kids do art because I believe that all kids are artists, and they deserve a chance. All kids have talent.”
Sara J. Horn, first-grader at Allegany Limestone Elementary, said, “I like art because you can make art out of lots of different things. For example, art can be made from toys, recycled products, things you find outside like leaves — art can be made out of anything! I feel like art is really calming. My favorite kind of art to make is painting because it is very soothing. When I see something really pretty and picturesque like a sunset, flowers, my puppy or kitten, I want to take a picture of it and make it into a painting.”
TCAC’s “A Little Something …” Small Works Members Show features more than 80 artists and 200 pieces. The show runs until Jan. 11 at the council’s Peg Bothner Gallery.
The council advocates for the creation and appreciation of arts and culture in the region. TCAC is always open to the public and adding to its Artisan Market and class schedule. New December hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday to Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
