Buybuy Baby is set to make its return to physical and digital retail just in time for the holiday shopping season.
After purchasing the intellectual property rights of bankrupt, Union-headquartered Bed Bath & Beyond’s baby-focused banner for $15.5 million in July, Piscataway-based baby goods retailer Dream On Me Inc. plans to launch 100 to 120 stores over the next three years, starting with 11 brick-and-mortar locations this November.
Those sites, which Dream On Me acquired for $1.17 million during a court-run auction this summer, are all located on the East Coast. Within New Jersey, Buybuy Baby reportedly plans to open at the following locations Nov. 18, according to NorthJersey.com:
- Paramus (34 E. Ridgewood Ave.)
- Cherry Hill (1590 Kings Highway N.)
- Bridgewater (711 Route 28)
- Iselin (675 Route 1 S., Suite 1)
The stores will feature a curated assortment of baby and maternal wellness brands, as well as an elevated retail experience that includes the addition of handheld point-of-sale devices for seamless checkout and integration of QR codes to offer customers access to additional product details.
Also launching soon is a new website, along with a revamped registry that will allow customers to add and purchase items directly from a dedicated app.
Operated independently from Dream On Me, the new company is led by Pete Daleiden, a former Bed Bath & Beyond executive who spent three of his 16 years with the company as a vice president of merchandising, planning & allocation for Buybuy Baby.
In commenting on the reopening, Daleiden said, “The future of BuyBuy Baby is bright, and our team is committed to ensuring that BuyBuy Baby remains the go-to destination for all parents, caregivers, and families seeking thoughtfully designed and quality baby and child-focused products, and exceptional customer service.”
Founded by Mark Serure in 1987, Dream On Me is considered one of the most trusted baby care brands in the U.S., selling cribs, strollers, mattresses and nursery furniture through several retail partners, such as Target and Amazon as well as Buybuy Baby.
Buybuy Baby’s return follows a similarly speedy comeback by former parent company Bed Bath & Beyond. After winning the Union-based home goods retailer’s IP auction in June for $21.5 million, Overstock.com revived the brand two months later, launching a refreshed website and mobile app where shoppers can purchase home décor, furniture, bedding and kitchenware.
It also comes after the revival of Babies R Us.
In July, the baby-branded banner with Jersey roots unveiled a new flagship store at American Dream — its first brick-and-mortar store to open since it was acquired two years ago by New York-based WHP Global Management.
