YUMA, Ariz. – Art in the Park, an alfresco fine art festival featuring live music, art exhibits, children’s attractions and a theatrical performance, takes place Saturday and Sunday, January 11-12, at Gateway Park.
Dozens of local and regional artists will display and sell their unique creations while performers entertain guests in front of the scenic backdrop of the Colorado River. Modeled after the famous Georges Seurat painting “A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte,” which features Parisians enjoying a leisurely afternoon along the water, Art in the Park invites attendees to view and purchase a wide variety of art displays and to mingle with local and regional artists. Additionally, lawn games will be set up for leisurely play.
The Saturday portion of the fine art festival will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., followed by Yuma Community Theater’s presentation of “Sunday in the Park with George” from 5 to 7 p.m. Viewers will need to bring their own chairs and blankets for this theatrical performance. Then on Sunday, January 12, the art festival will run from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
“We invite you to come and immerse yourself in a celebration of creativity and culture,” said Arts and Culture Program Manager Ana Padilla. “From captivating art displays to soul-stirring music and a dynamic theater presentation, join us at Art in the Park for an unforgettable experience that brings art to life.”
Admission into the park for this event is $1 per person or free for children ages six and younger. Dogs are welcome as long as they are attached to a leash. Food vendors will have lunch or snack items for sale.
The event will take place rain or shine. Visitors should enter Gateway Park through either its main parking lot north of 1st Street and Gila Street, or through the east end of Pivot Point at the north end of Madison Avenue.
