Located on Riley Fuzzel Road, Community Fieldhouse is a vibrant hub where you can play sports, friends gather, families connect, and memories are made. Hello Woodlands interviewed owners Shane and Renee Sullivan to learn all about the new local restaurant with a mission to build community through sports, dining, and entertainment.
The Interview
How did Community Fieldhouse start?
We grew up in The Woodlands and returned with our family after college and 10 years in the Army. We love this community and raise our teens here. We also missed the deep sense of community that we found in Army special operations. We also have a firm believe that sports are a much-needed part of our society. Our community needs more sports facilities, and we thought this unique concept would be the perfect fit. It’s one of a kind, and it wasn’t easy to get off the ground. This is the first Community Fieldhouse – a combination of sports, dining, and entertainment. We hope you love it.

How did you choose the name?
It’s a huge building, much like a fieldhouse you’d find at a university, but ours just has a great sports bar and restaurant too. As our mission is all about building community, it was a pretty easy pick for the Community Fieldhouse.
What is the atmosphere like? Who are your customers, or who do you hope to serve?
Our restaurant is very modular, so the vibe is always changing. It’s the perfect spot to watch a game on our 30+ foot TVs, bring a large family or sports team gathering, or just stop by for dinner during a busy school week. The main thing is, we’re a community welcome to all, and we hope to serve all members of our community with kindness and respect.
We are carefully designed to handle large groups (though we’d love an email heads up for groups over 15). There aren’t many places like us that can accommodate such a variety of ages and manage groups from 20 to 750 where everyone has something to enjoy. We do that all the time – for fundraisers, celebrations, organizational events, and more.
We now have corporate happy hours and team building events regularly, and they have a great time! It’s more than just happy hour, which is probably why they’re becoming so popular. I guess a little management team dodgeball is healthy for an organization!
We’re a great option for families and adult sports enthusiasts. We often keep our sports facilities unrented and open to the public to use on day passes and memberships. Families love to come and let the kids play while they watch sports and dine with other adults; our indoor turf often looks like a big cul-de-sac on the weekends. Adults get in the fun too with our nine indoor pickleball courts, pickup games, huge patio, and more.
Food and drinks just pair well with this kind of an atmosphere, and our guests are surprised at the selection, quality, and a fantastic bar.

What do you serve? What makes your menu special and unique?
We call it American craft fusion. We started with some simple American dishes you’d expect at sports bar (like burgers, wings, hot chicken sandwiches, ABLTs, and flatbreads) and just elevated those with our in-house chefs. Everything is fresh and streamlined to serve our large capacity, typically at 10-20 minute ticket times with reasonable demand. Craft speaks to the painstaking care the chefs put into the ingredients to make these staple dishes enjoyable time again. We have several regulars saying they would put the G.O.A.T burger up against any in town… bold claim, but we agree it’s really good.
We also added in some interesting options to keep the menu fresh, like our chicken and sausage gumbo, pastas, Yoshinoya beef bowl, Get ‘em To the Greek bowl, Kalua tacos, and a unique everything bagel encrusted salmon filet. Just naming a few of our options, but we think fusion speaks to the menu’s varied options in cultural tastes.
We also try to keep it interesting with seasonal changes, like our fall menu including peach perfect pancakes, spiced pear toddy, and an incredible tomato bisque and grilled cheese that will make you feel like a kid again.
Oh yeah, the kids… they love our burgers and tenders, and the parents love that they can come with gluten free buns and fresh sliced fruit (of course we have regular or sweet potato fries too).
Our barista has a full suite of options at the coffee/smoothie bar, and the kids also love our Refresher drinks, like the “Jaws Juice” in bright blue that has gummy sharks lurking in the bottom.
It’s a menu that compliments the facility, brings people together, and has a lot of love poured into it by Chef Cade, Chef Ethan and our whole culinary team.
Our mixologists Laura and Chris can’t be left out. They have one of the best bourbon selections around and craft great cocktails like our fall seasonal pear toddy, pumpa-rita, and sangrias. We have fifteen brews on tap and a wide bottle selection to serve just about every interest. Our bartenders are especially kind too.
What do you attribute to Community Fieldhouse’s success?
We’ll be one year young at the end of January 2025. Time flies. We have not made small business easy in our country. It’s high dive in the dark, and we owe our success to grit, faith, and the generous support of our community that has had the patience and kindness to see us through the startup of something new. We believe we’re doing something good for this community, and we can only continue with their support. It’s a partnership.
Tell us about your team.
We have an amazing team of just under a hundred employees to keep the fieldhouse afloat with such a large dining experience. You need a deep bench to support our hours and the fluctuating demand our facility sees throughout the week. We have a core staff that have poured themselves into our mission and its success. We also have a large number of service professionals, including many in their first jobs. It’s a part of our mission to provide young people in the local community with safe place to experience a challenging job in the service industry. We hope our community continues to support them back. As we’ve grown, we’ve attracted a lot of experienced professionals as it’s such a fun service environment, and with that our training improves with each week. We are so blessed that this business has provided so many work opportunities for people in the community.

How do you give back to the local community?
Our mission is to build community through sports, dining, and entertainment. Our restaurant is an important business component to affording premium sports facilities for the local leagues and athletes to enjoy. At the same time, sports naturally gather a lot of people together, and we wanted a restaurant that could enhance that experience. We believe our community is a better place with these facilities close-by and available to all. It truly is a partnership with the community, and we appreciate their support in making this mission a success.
We regularly host fundraising events to support local non-profits, schools, and teams. We try to do these events in a way that gathers people and builds community while raising money for their organization. We hosted a pickleball and cornhole tournament for a local fireman we lost to cancer, have had multiple basketball and pickleball tournaments for local charities, a large rugby event for Camp Hope veterans organization, and we’re even hosting the Houston watch party for the Army Navy Game supporting NextOp vets.
During hurricane Beryl, we were blessed to have power and internet when most did not. We opened to the community because it was just the right thing to do, and we asked for patience as we had a very limited staff. A packed house came each day to recharge, work, cool off, and unwind. Constable Gable and his team presented our staff a community service award from Montgomery County as we also opened our doors at night, with about sixty families camping indoors each day for the week in air-conditioning and what comfort we could provide. It was moving experience, and one we’ll never forget. Our staff did awesome, and we all learned what the Community Fieldhouse mission really meant that week.
What is your favorite meal?
This is a tough question that depends on the day… You have to get burgers right at a place like this, and the one we serve really are great. The smashburger style, just the right breads, and tasty toppings are just right. We’re also big fans of having seasonal options. It keeps things interesting. Renee is originally from Lafayette, so adding a gumbo on the menu meant Chef had to pass her test. It’s a great gumbo and a daring move. Everyone has a different opinion on gumbo, so you know it won’t please everyone. We think we have a winner in the distinct category of a not too much rice, dark roux, and you’re from Lafayette kind of vibe. Our chefs are always experimenting the next dish, so we’re open to our guests’ ideas on what our next favorite should be.
What are the locals ordering? What are your customers’ favorite menu items?
The G.O.A.T burger is a clear favorite, followed by our fried cheese curds side item. Our more health conscience crowd has a loved the pear salad, everything salmon entrée, and our get ‘em to the greek bowl. For dessert, and on our fall menu, we have a cinnamon apple delight which are three apple pie egg rolls served with vanilla ice cream and dashed with cinnamon sugar – they’re fabulous.
What are 5 Words to describe your restaurant?
