With the start of the new year, there are lots of acts coming to the Narrows Center for the Arts, 16 Anawan St., Fall River, from nationally-acclaimed to locally-loved performers, as well as a continuing exhibition that’s sure to please both music and photography lovers.
That’s right, the Narrows will continue to host “THEN & NOW,” featuring photographs that span decades and celebrate music legends.

Here’s a look at what’s coming up at the Narrows Center for the Arts, in the month of January:
Funky White Honkies
Beloved area party band Funky White Honkies will be bringing a big dance party to the Narrows on Friday, Jan. 3, at 8 p.m.

Led by Dinty Child, the Funky White Honkies “are a ragtag band of fine New England music veterans,” a press release from the Narrows said.
Doors open at 7 p.m.

Pearly Baker Band
Deadheads are invited to check out the Pearly Baker Band on Saturday, Jan. 4, at 8 p.m.
For more than 37 years, they’ve been playing Grateful Dead music their way, plus music by The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, and more.
Doors open at 7 p.m.
Tickets are $40 in advance, and $43 the day of the show.

Cheryl Wheeler with special guest Kenny White
You may not be familiar with Cheryl Wheeler, but you certainly know her music.
The work of this respected songwriter has been covered by Dan Seals; Peter, Paul and Mary; Kenny Loggins; Garth Brooks; Suzy Bogguss; Bette Midler; and more.
“If they think she is great,” the press release said, “then you owe it to yourself to learn more if you aren’t familiar with her.”
Wheeler will be at the Narrows, with special guest singer-songwriter Kenny White, on Saturday, Jan. 11, at 8 p.m.
Doors open at 7 p.m.

Masters of the Telecaster, featuring GE Smith, Larry Campbell, and Jim Weider
Renowned rock guitarists GE Smith, Larry Campbell, and Jim Weider will be performing on Friday, Jan. 17, at 8 p.m.
Masters of the Telecaster will feature them, and they will also be joined by Lincoln Schleifer and Josh Dion, to “complete this righteous band,” the press release said.
Doors open at 7 p.m.

Johnny Hoy and The Bluefish
See Johnny Hoy and The Bluefish on Saturday, Jan. 18, at 8 p.m.
“Johnny and company are purveyors of the American songbook and know how to get the place moving,” the press release said.

Brandon ‘Taz’ Niederauer
Brandon Niederauer is nicknamed “Taz” for his ferocious guitar playing, and “is living proof that dreams really do come true,” the press release said.
“Having performed in some of the most legendary venues in America with many of the most prominent musicians of our time, the young guitarist, singer, and songwriter has already earned himself quite the reputation,” the release said.
“Taz” will performing at the Narrows on Friday, Jan. 24, at 8 p.m.

Duke Robillard
Grammy-nominated Blues artist Duke Robillard will be at the Narrows on Saturday, Jan. 25, at 8 p.m.
“He founded Roomful Of Blues with pianist Al Copley in 1967,” the press release said. “He replaced Jimmie Vaughan in The Fabulous Thunderbirds in 1990. He recorded on [Bob] Dylan’s ‘Time Out Of Mind’ and later toured with him.”

Ollabelle
Supergroup Ollabelle will be at the Narrows on Thursday, Jan. 30, at 8 p.m.
Glenn Patscha, Byron Isaacs, Tony Leone, Fiona McBain, and Amy Helm reunite to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their first album.
“Their music is joyful, accessible and exhilarating, and has earned them the respect of fellow musicians …” the press release said. “…. Come hear how they take early American gospel, folk and mountain music and drag it into the future with the utmost respect and abandon.”

Club d’Elf
“Club d’Elf has been helping audiences lose track of time for twenty-five years with its mesmerizing synthesis of Moroccan traditional music and electronic, dubbed-out funk,” the press release said.
Featuring bassist/composer Mike Rivard and drummer Dean Johnston, each Club d’Elf performance features a different lineup.
They’ll be performing at the Narrows on Friday, Jan. 31, at 8 p.m.

‘THEN & NOW’: Richard McCaffrey and Rick Farrell
See music legends throughout the years in “THEN & NOW,” featuring photographs by Richard McCaffrey and Rick Farrell.
This exhibition of photographs of musicians will showcase work by McCaffrey from between 1974 and 1985, paired with photos of the same musicians taken by Farrell between 2008 and 2022.
“THEN & NOW” is at the Narrows through Feb. 14.
‘Contemporary Mandalas: Focused, Deliberate & Curative in Practice’: Kathy Furze-Spencer
“The mandala is basically a representation of the universe, a consecrated area that serves as a receptacle for the gods and as a collection point of universal forces,” the press release said. “Man, by ‘entering’ the mandala and ‘proceeding’ to its center is by analogy, guided through the cosmic processes of disintegration and reintegration.”
Mandalas are also employed as a therapeutic art form.
This exhibit is on display through Jan. 18.
South Coast Creative Arts Lab
Join the Narrows on Tuesday, Jan. 28, from 4 to 5:30 p.m., for the South Coast Creative Arts Lab student showcase, where students display their projects from the past semester.
The showcase is free, and open to the public.
