You can dance if you want to: Tea party brings ‘The Nutcracker’ to life for children

Scratch the visions of sugar plums dancing in their heads. Kids’ minds were likely filled with images of pirouettes, twirls and leaping after watching dances from “The Nutcracker.”

That suits Lisa Sanders, executive director of Greenwood Performing Arts, just fine. A small army of kids followed by parents and parents descended upon the Arts Center of Greenwood for the third annual Nutcracker Tea Party. The event offered young children a chance to dine urbanely while wearing holiday finery. The main gallery was filled with parents, grandparents and children seated at round tables. Before the tea party kicked off, several children had their picture taken with a ballerina with the International Ballet that performed excerpts from “The Nutcracker.”
