Business Beat:York’s Merrill now runs his own shop

In the 12 years or so Mike Merrill has worked as an automotive technician he has always had in the back of his mind that he wanted to run his own operation someday. That day has arrived. Merrill recently purchased Skip’s Automotive Repair from Skip Blundell and has renamed the shop The Car Clinic. The Car Clinic is located at 711 South Lincoln Avenue, York.

Blundell retained the Skip’s Towing portion of his former business and will continue to operate his towing business.

In his search to run his own operation Merrill had explored a couple of opportunities before contacting Blundell. They worked out an agreement and Merrill took over at the end of September after spending the previous two months working with Blundell getting to know the techs and customers.

“It’s the same location and features the same great service,” said Merrill. “It just comes with a different owner and it’s an owner that grew up here in York and wants to stay here. There’s been a learning curve when you get into a new operation and there’s a lot to do on the business side.”

After attending the University of Nebraska – Kearney for a semester he went on to attend Southeast Community College in Milford where he graduated at the top of his class with an Associate of Science degree in the automotive technology program.

Rootology Function Nutrition aims at wellness through your plate

People are focusing on their health, nutrition and wellness more today than ever before and to help, Rootology Functional Nutrition Counseling is opening a practice to serve clients in York and surrounding areas.

“Its mission is to provide health education and tools that help steer people to a healthier life”, said Stephanie Mousel. “Functional Nutrition Counseling goes beyond basic nutrition. It applies personalized, specifically targeted changes to diet, activity, stress, sleep, nutrients and the microbiome. It concentrates on the person, not just on their disease or condition, while taking a holistic approach to optimizing health and addressing the root causes of illness.”

“When a person experiences ongoing health issues, every symptom is a sign,” says Stephanie Mousel, Certified Functional Nutrition Counselor and Rootology owner. “In my practice, I’m going “upstream” to explore the underlying issues and support the normal restorative mechanisms in the body.”

“Clients delve deep into the journey that led them to their health issues and learn about their condition. Once a patient understands what’s going on in their body, they can do more to care for themselves in between doctor’s visits.”

Mousel has lived in York for the past 25 years and became interested in this field when she wasn’t able to find answers to her own health and digestive issues. She completed a 20-month certification training.

Mousel is currently offering virtual sessions, beginning with a 15-minute consultation. For more information, visit www.rootologynutrition.com or contact her at 402-366-7978.

Free car washes for veterans

16th Street Car Wash will again provide free car washes to veterans and current military service personnel, under the Grace For Vets Free Wash Program on Saturday, Nov. 11 from 9 a.m. — 5 pm. Washes will be given rain or shine.

The free washes are given to honor and recognize those that have and are serving in the armed forces. 16th Street Car Wash, owned by Jon and Joan Strong, is proud to have been participating in the Grace for Vets program for several years.

“This day is not about the car wash operators who are providing the free washes, it’s about honoring and recognizing those that have and are serving and protecting our country, says Jon Strong. “Our employees look forward to giving back to those that have given so much.”

Grace For Vets was founded by Mike Mountz, former owner of Cloister Wash & Lube, in Ephrata, PA in 2004.

What the heck?

It’s Halloween so hope you have your candy ready for tonight. If you’re out on the streets watch out for all the little ghosts and goblins that will be running around. And if anyone has some extra candy that they didn’t get rid of later this evening and they don’t want it laying around the house, get ahold of me and I’ll take it off your hands.
