FORT WAYNE — Near the end of each year the Garrett Museum of Art, located north of Fort Wayne, hosts an exhibit called “Women Take the Walls” featuring talented women artists from Indiana with their paintings, sculptures, jewelry, and mixed media works.
Organizers of the show like to highlight one posthumous artist in each year and this year they selected Lilian Fendig. They reached out to the Prairie Arts Council Permanent Collection to borrow a selection of Lilian Fendig’s paintings, sketchbooks, and woodblocks. They also selected some of Lilian’s personal tools including a paintbrush and pallet.
This is a beautiful but small art museum located in a renovated state bank building with large architectural windows, multiple rooms, and stunning vertical space. The Prairie Arts Council Board was excited to partner with another gallery and to celebrate Lilian Fendig among so many other talented women artists.
The show ran October through Dec. 22 of 2024. The gallery is open on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoons.
