CLEVELAND, Ohio — Television news reporter and anchor Sia Nyorkor is returning to Cleveland. The award-winning journalist, who spent nine years at WOIO Channel 19 before leaving in May, is joining WKYC Channel 3. Her first day is Monday, Jan. 13.
“Sia has established herself as a news leader and driver in Northeast Ohio, and we are excited to welcome her back to her adopted home,” said WKYC news director Jonathan Adkins in a statement.
Nyorkor spent the past six months working on the morning show at WTHR Channel 13, the NBC affiliate in her hometown of Indianapolis. Both WTHR and WKYC are owned by Tegna.
At 3News, Nyorkor will serve as the nightside reporter on “What’s Next,” the station’s 11 p.m. newscast, four days a week. On Fridays, she’ll co-anchor “Front Row” with Mike Polk at 7 p.m. and “What’s Next” with Russ Mitchell.
Nyorkor brings 20 years of experience to her new role. Her career includes stints at local CBS stations in Wichita, Kansas, and Gainesville, Florida, as well as work with MTV News. Her reports at WOIO highlighting the Defend Black Women movement and Black hair culture earned national recognition, including Gracie Awards from the Alliance for Women in Media Foundation in 2021-22.
An active member of the National Association of Black Journalists and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, a public service organization, Nyorkor became a recognizable personality during her time at Ch. 19. She covered major events like the Cavaliers’ championship run, connected with viewers through public appearances and social media, and volunteered in the community. In a 2021 interview with cleveland.com, she said she had fallen in love with the city and its food scene, naming Zoma Ethiopian Restaurant in Cleveland Heights and Soho Chicken + Whiskey in Ohio City among her favorite spots.
“In the television news business, we don’t say goodbye, we say, ‘see you later,’” Nyorkor posted at the time of her departure last year.
She was right.
