The Santa Barbara Chamber Players will blend the grandeur of orchestral music with the stirring power of opera in a Winter Concert, 7:30 p.m. Feb. 1 at First United Methodist Church, 305 E. Anapamu St.
Under the baton of Emmanuel Fratianni, the ensemble’s program will feature masterpieces by Schubert, Puccini and Schönberg, as well as the talents of vocalist April Amante.
The program includes
• Schubert’s “Unfinished Symphony:” A work that has captivated listeners for nearly two centuries with its poignant melodies and unfulfilled promise.
• Canteloube’s “Chants d’Auvergne:” The French folk songs that make up “Chants d’Auvergne” will be brought to life by April Amante.
• Puccini’s “O mio babbino caro” from Gianni Schicchi: The famous aria, performed by Amante, reflects a poignant moment of longing and innocence.
• Puccini’s “Quando m’en vo” from “La Bohème: Musetta’s Waltz” is known for its charm and energy.
• Schönberg’s “I Dreamed a Dream” from “Les Misérables:” Amante will offer her own interpretation on this piece that is originally a song of heartbreak from the world of musical theater.
