Pulaski County names first director of Sports Tourism and Entertainment

PULASKI, Va. (WDBJ) – Pulaski County officially named Tim Miller the first director of the newly created Office of Sports Tourism and Entertainment.

The goal of this office is to revitalize Pulaski County’s sports and tourism scene.

Tim Miller has spent years in the sports tourism and entertainment field developing sports infrastructures.

After seeing Pulaski’s facilities, he says the area really stood out.

“I could immediately see the potential, and I’ve kind of built part of my career anyway on building new organizations and sort of standing things up from the ground up,” Miller said. “And so this was immediately appealing to me.”

From mountain bike parks to the famous Calfee Park, Miller plans to utilize all venues to attract the best entertainment.

“Yeah, I mean, when you look at, you know, Calfee Park is one of the oldest active baseball stadiums in the country,” he said. “There’s an opportunity to build on that, you know, whether it’s youth tournaments or, you know, standalone college games or high school games.”

The goal is to provide an environment for sports and entertainment growth and Pulaski’s economic growth as well.

“And the critical mass that brings creates new opportunities that we’ve never had for investments in new restaurants and new hotels and new entertainment businesses and tourism-related businesses,” Pulaski County Administrator Jonathan Sweet said.

There are plenty of outdoor venues in Pulaski County, but Tim says the goal is to move towards indoor recreation now.
