Tri-County Arts Council announces upcoming classes

OLEAN — The chill of winter is here, but the Tri-County Arts Council plans to warm things up with a slate of art classes.

Upcoming classes include:

  • Basic stained glass — Feb. 4 and 11 with Linda Simons from 5 to 8 p.m.; $100 for artisan members and above, $110 basic/family members and non-members, supply fee of $40 is included in cost; ages 16 and up.

In this class you will learn the copper foil method of making stained glass. You will be able to choose which design you would like to create from a variety of examples. More examples are available than just what’s shown in the picture. This is totally a hands-on class. There are a lot of steps to make a stained-glass piece of art. You will learn how to cut the different colors of glass, you choose, into different shapes. Then you’ll grind it to make sure all the pieces fit together like a puzzle. When they all fit together, you’ll burnish copper foil to the outside edges of each piece. Finally, you will solder the pieces together, making them into your very own piece of art! After some cleaning.

Please wear closed toe shoes, and older clothes you won’t mind getting a little dirty, and/or bring an apron to class.

  • Live Drawing — Feb. 6 from 5 to 7 p.m.; $10 for artisan members and above, $15 basic/family members and non-members; ages 12 and up.

Join for a live drawing session with a costumed model. We will start with some gesture drawing and move to a longer pose. Please note this is not a class with a teacher, but an opportunity to practice your drawing.

  •  Intro to Meditative Painting — Feb. 13 and 20 with Colleen Gaynor from 5:30 to 7 p.m.; $25 artisan members and above, $35 basic/family members and non-members; ages 16 and up.

Embark on a transformative journey through the art of Mandala creation. Gaynor is a certified Creatively Fit Coach and meditative painting teacher. This is a beginner-level class and no prior experience is needed.
