Beyoncé Pays Tribute to Britney Spears as She Begins ‘Renaissance World Tour’

Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour started on May 10, 2023, at the Friends Arena in Stockholm, Sweden.

During the show, Bey surprised fans by using a part of Britney Spears’ hit song “Toxic” as a tribute to her.

In January, Bey gave her first full show in four years at the new Atlantis Royal Resort in Dubai.

She started her show by singing Dangerously in Love in a silver jumpsuit. Flaws and All, 1+1, I’m Goin’ Down, and I Care followed, and then she sang songs from her Renaissance album, which came out in July of last year.

Also, at the first stop of the 57-show tour, the Grammy-winning artist performed in a whirlwind of club-ready fashion outfits that were inspired by the runways.

In the second part of the show, before she switched to the Renaissance song “Thique,” while she was dancing with the French dance duo “Les Twins,” the famous instrumental from Spears’s “Toxic” played in the background, with a ticking sound added to give it more depth.

Beyoncé then started singing the song, saying, “She thought she was killin’ that sh–, I told her, ‘Go harder’/ Just look at this alkaline wrist ’cause I got that water.”

Fans cheered when she gave a shout-out to another pop star.

As confetti fell from the roof at the end of the show, the singer told the crowd, “I want you all to give yourselves a hand for being such a great audience. God bless you.”

Variety says that the stadium tour will keep going through Europe until June and that the North American leg will start in Toronto on July 8.

Club Renaissance will have at least 40 shows, mostly in stadiums. It will stop at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey (July 29) and the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California (September 2), as well as Chicago, Philadelphia, Toronto, Atlanta, Phoenix, and Miami.
