Swifties rejoice! Berklee offers a Taylor Swift songwriting course

Berklee College of Music students will get to know Taylor Swift’s songwriting on a whole new level, thanks to a new class focused around just that.

Taught by Professor of Songwriting Scarlet Keys, the two-hour course gives students a “chance to delve into a live class and discover how students are learning valuable lessons from Taylor Swift’s songwriting skills while exploring her profound impact on the music industry,” a release from the institute said.

Currently, there is only one Swift class being taught this semester on Thursdays at 4 p.m. The class will make a return during the school’s next semester with two more sections and excited students who even dress like the artist.

“They love it,” Keys told MassLive. “They’re coming to class wearing cardigans and red scarves.”

The course is designed to focus on Swift’s songwriting craft, Keys explained. However, there are whole lot of bases to cover throughout the course.

This includes analyzing songs off of her 10 albums, with a new topic or technique to discuss each week surrounding her writing. Students are put into groups and leave the classroom and apply those techniques to a chorus of their own song.
