The 2025 AJAC Canadian Car of the Year (CCOTY) awards winners were announced. The awards recognize standout models across four categories: car, electric car, utility vehicle, and electric utility vehicle. The awards consider every vehicle available for sale in the model year, not only new releases.
Honda Civic Named 2025 Canadian Car of the Year

The Honda Civic won the Canadian Car of the Year award, which covers sedans, coupes, hatchbacks, and wagons. Gasoline, diesel, and hybrid models with less than 20 kilometres of electric range are eligible.
BMW i4 Wins Canadian Electric Car of the Year

The BMW i4 was named Canadian Electric Car of the Year. This category covers fully electric models, plug-in hybrids with at least 20 kilometres of range, and alternative fuel vehicles such as hydrogen fuel cell cars.
Hyundai Santa Fe Earns Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year

The Hyundai Santa Fe took the Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year award. This category includes trucks, vans, crossovers, SUVs with gas or diesel powertrains, and PHEVs with under 20 kilometres of electric range.
Hyundai IONIQ 5 N Named Canadian Electric Utility Vehicle of the Year

The Hyundai IONIQ 5 N was selected as the Canadian Electric Utility Vehicle of the Year. Eligible vehicles include fully electric models, plug-in hybrids with over 20 kilometres of range, and hydrogen fuel cell-powered utility vehicles.
CCOTY Selection Process Considers Entire Market
The CCOTY program evaluates all vehicles on sale during the model year, similar to how consumers compare car options. The process begins with 20 semi-finalists, narrowed to three finalists per category before announcing the winners. This format allows models to earn repeat victories if they continue to lead their segments.
