PA Renaissance Faire competing for nationwide top-10 award; here’s how to vote


 

The Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire, on the grounds of the Mount Hope Estate & Winery, is among the attractions competing for the title of best Renaissance fair in the country in the USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice contest.

The winner among 20 nominated fairs across the country will be determined by readers’ votes. The Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire, off Route 72, at 2775 Lebanon Road, north of Manheim, is in seventh place as of Monday, Feb. 17. Readers’ votes have it behind fairs in Ohio, Montana, Washington state, Ohio, Maryland, New Jersey and the Pittsburgh area.

Voting in the Renaissance fair category ends at noon Monday, March 10. The The 10 winners will be announced on Wednesday, March 19.

From mid-August to the end of October each year, Queen Elizabeth I, along with lords, ladies, knights and street performers, entertain visitors to The Shire at the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire with demonstrations, music, dancing, physical comedy and more.

“The Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire recreates a 16th-century village with … all kinds of historically-inspired merriment. … It’s fun for the whole family,” USA Today’s nominating panel writes.

The 20 nominees in each USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice category are chosen by panels of experts. Then, readers vote for the top-10 winners in each category.

Also in the region, Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square is nominated for Best Botanical Garden in the 10Best Readers’ Choice contest.

Lancaster County has a few winners in past readers’ choice awards.
