VESTAL, N.Y. – Binghamton men’s basketball opens its 2023-24 season with a home exhibition game Wednesday night at the Events Center. The Bearcats welcome D’Youville to Dr. Bai Lee Court at 6:07 p.m. The game will be broadcast on WNBF News Radio 1290 AM/92.1 FM, at wnbf.com and at the WNBF app available on all IOS and Android devices.
Third-year head coach Levell Sanders returns two starters (Dan Petcash, Armon Harried) and five letterwinners from last year’s squad that advanced to the America East semifinals. This year’s team features nine newcomers, highlighted by Syracuse University transfer Symir Torrence. For the second straight year, BU was picked to finish fourth in the America East Coaches’ Poll.
The Bearcats open the regular season Monday at Big Ten member Northwestern and continue a tough opening stretch with a road game at ACC member Pitt on Nov. 10 before returning to the Events Center on Nov. 12.
“Everybody is pretty excited about getting the season going,” Sanders said. “It’s been a long summer and we are at that stage where you are tired of playing against your teammates all the time. We’re looking to get going. I like our competitiveness … a lot of the guys don’t like to lose … and we’re pushing the pace out there. We want to score more points so we will move and cut and push the ball in transition. With the exhibition game against D’Youville, I always talk about respecting our opponents. We have to play the way we want to play and get through any nervousness. I want to see us play hard and compete and if we do that, we will be fine.”
D’Youville is an NCAA Division II program located in Buffalo. The Saints are a member of the East Coast Conference and return eight players from last year’s squad, including two of the team’s top three scorers for second-year coach Andy Stark, a 2015 graduate of St. Bonaventure.
