There’s a shift coming to Denver’s media market, where traditionally dominant outlets now face real competition from new challengers.
Darren McKee, a popular sports talk host known as “D-Mac,” is joining Altitude Sports Radio. McKee was a longtime host at Altitude’s rival station, KKFN-FM.
McKee was let go at 104.3 The Fan in September. Wednesday was his on-air debut at Altitude.
“I feel like the girl that I was dating, her sister grew up to be Miss Universe. Then I dumped the (girl),” McKee said Wednesday on Altitude’s morning show, “Moser, Lombardi and Kane.”
McKee will be paired with former NBA player and Denver media staple Scott Hastings and Tyler Polumbus, a former Broncos and Buffs offensive lineman, in the midday slot from noon to 3 p.m. McKee’s pairing with Polumbus is familiar, as the two were on-air partners at 104.3 The Fan.
“I’m so excited to be joining a station that has a long history of covering all the region’s sports teams,” McKee said.
Altitude Sports Radio recently topped 104.3 The Fan for the first time in the summer ratings book, according to reports.
“We are now the No. 1 sports (radio station) in town,” Altitude’s Vic Lombardi said.
