Peacock & Pearls opening new location in time for 10th anniversary, J.J. Fosters also moving

Peacocks & Pearls Boutique and J.J. Fosters are opening their new, bigger locations this Friday — just one building over from their current spot. The move is just in time for the 10th anniversary for Peacock & Pearls, and a big celebration is planned for this weekend.

Peacocks & Pearls and J.J. Fosters are currently located next to one another at 4431 Springhill Drive off KY 54 beside Great Harvest. Now they’ll be at 4399 Springhill Drive in the same building that houses Trunnell’s Farm Market.

Peacocks & Pearls initially opened in a space just down the road on KY 54 in November 2013. Owner Deanna Cecil said they quickly outgrew that space, and they had a line every Friday and Saturday for dressing rooms.

Once she knew Great Harvest had signed a lease to anchor that strip center, Cecil knew she wanted to move to that location. That store opened in 2015.

In 2021, Peacocks & Pearls launched an online site, and business boomed. The number of items they shipped out of the store increased exponentially, and their back room simply wasn’t big enough to accommodate the shipping needs on top of the storage space for in-store inventory.

Then two spaces on the end of the building next door opened up after Be Real Sports Cycling & Fitness moved locations in December 2022 and M&M Jewelers closed in July 2023.

Cecil said the move comes with a number of benefits, both for the business and customers.

A lot of it comes down to adding a combined 2,000 square feet to the businesses.

“We’re merging our back rooms together,” Cecil said. “The back room alone right now is 400 square feet and it’s going to 1,400. That is going to be huge, just for the happiness of the employees and for functionality.”

They are also gaining two more dressing rooms, and there will be more room on the front end to allow better maneuverability between inventory and other shoppers.

J.J. Fosters opened in November 2020. Cecil said while it didn’t necessarily need to move to a bigger location, it made sense to move both stores because now they share an open middle area under one roof.

There will still be two storefronts and entryways, but customers can now walk from one to the other. Cecil said that’s a benefit when shopping with a significant other, or if fathers and daughters are shopping at the same time.

“It will be way more convenient for the customers,” Cecil said. “Everyone can check out from the same register.”

Cecil also noted that another big recent change at J.J. Fosters is they now offer suit and tux rentals. Most of the products there are still higher-end clothing and shoes, as well as some gift options.

At Peacocks & Pearls, products span a wide range of prices and cater to all ages — and with the added space Cecil said she’ll be able to add a few more brands and new product lines.

“We have a dress that’s literally $42 and a dress that’s $230. The $230 range is maybe only 10% of our inventory. Mostly we are under $89. We like to say it’s affordable and middle-of-the-range, but not a one-time wear,” Cecil said. “It’s definitely clothing that you can re-wear and staples for outfits. Although we do have fun concert wear and stuff like that, most of it is stuff that all age groups could wear.”

Cecil said the wide variety is something she gets a lot of feedback on.

“People say, ‘I love how I can come in here being 65 and I can bring my 45-year-old daughter and she can bring her 16-year-old daughter, and we can all find something.’ That’s what I’ve always prided myself on. That’s my main goal alongside customer service,” she said. “It’s just cool that three generations can all shop under one roof. And now the dad can come, too.”

In addition to clothes, Peacocks & Pearls predominately carries shoes, accessories, jewelry, and headbands, though they also have a small selection of gift items such as bags, tumblers, and candles.

The stores are planning a 2-day grand re-opening with giveaways, live music, a food truck, a petting zoo, and a selfie station.

They will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. this Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. this Saturday. The big giveaway will be for a $500 gift card plus a Kendra Scott jewelry box that has some jewelry in it. They will also be giving away a pair of Kendra Scott earrings or a necklace every hour for both Friday and Saturday.

Normally, hours for both stores are Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m., Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Cecil said she was thankful for the growth over the last decade, crediting a strong team and community support.

“It’s like a family around here. We see each other almost every day. And as far as the community goes, you could not ask for better customers,” she said. “They’re just so loyal, and they feel like family members. You would think it’s just clothes, but it’s really more than that. You really form a bond with your customers. The community is really awesome, and I’ve just been so blessed to have such a good following and such good growth.”
