Health Department highlights WIC Program during National Nutrition Month

LILLINGTON — March is National Nutrition Month. To celebrate, the Harnett County Health Department is spotlighting the Women, Infant and Children (WIC) program. The WIC program serves to safeguard the health of low-income pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women, infants, and children up to age 5 who are at nutritional risk by providing healthy foods, breastfeeding promotion and support, nutrition education and community referrals.

To be eligible for WIC, a person must be pregnant, breastfeeding, a new mom or an infant or a child younger than age 5. They must have a medical or nutritional health risk, meet the WIC program’s income guidelines, and live in North Carolina.
