Celsius Holdings completes acquisition of Alani Nutrition for $1.8bn

Celsius Holdings has finalised its acquisition of Alani Nutrition for a total consideration of $1.8 billion, which includes $150 million in tax assets, resulting in a net purchase price of $1.65 billion.

This strategic move aims to bolster Celsius’s position in the functional beverage sector, particularly in the growing market for zero-sugar alternatives.

The acquisition aligns with the increasing consumer demand for healthier beverage choices, as more consumers shift away from traditional sugary drinks in favour of functional options that support wellness.

The combined product offerings of Celsius and Alani Nu are expected to enhance market reach and cater to a broader audience seeking better-for-you beverages.

John Fieldly, chairman and CEO of Celsius, remarked on the strategic importance of this acquisition, stating that it will enhance the company’s capabilities within the energy drink category.

He noted that Alani Nu has established a strong brand presence and a loyal consumer base, which Celsius plans to leverage for further growth.

Alani Nu will continue to operate under the Celsius umbrella, with key members of Alani Nu’s leadership team remaining as advisors to ensure a seamless transition and ongoing business momentum.

Max Clemons, co-founder of Alani Nu, said: “The closing of this transaction further strengthens our ability to grow the energy drink category and reach new consumers who seek better-for-you, functional beverages as a healthier alternative to traditional, sugary energy drinks,” said Celsius chairman and CEO John Fieldly.

“The Alani Nu founders and team have built a leading portfolio of health and wellness lifestyle products enjoyed by a large and loyal consumer base. We expect to continue creating the same great-tasting products Alani Nu is known for and innovating even more great flavours and collaborations to reach more people, in more places, more often.”

This acquisition not only reflects Celsius’s commitment to expanding its product portfolio but also underscores a broader trend in the food and beverage industry towards health-conscious offerings.

As consumer preferences evolve, companies are increasingly focusing on creating products that align with wellness lifestyles, presenting new opportunities for growth in the functional beverage segment. The integration of Alani Nu into Celsius’s operations is anticipated to enhance the company’s competitive advantage in a rapidly evolving market landscape.

As the functional beverage category continues to gain traction, stakeholders will be closely monitoring how this acquisition impacts both companies’ market strategies and overall performance. Celsius Holdings is positioned to capitalise on this strategic acquisition as it navigates the complexities of the functional beverage market, aiming to meet the demands of health-oriented consumers.
