Holger Rune enjoyed a comfortable win on Wednesday in Paris. He knocked out Dominic Thiem in the 2023 Rolex Paris Masters draw. These two players have not faced one another before in a tour-level match. They did play in a peripheral event back in 2021, with Rune winning two sets to one.

Each player should be fresh for the upcoming match. Rune had a bye through the first round. Also, his match against Dominic Thiem was only 91 minutes in length. That won’t bother a Top Ten player on tour, like Rune. Meanwhile, Altmaier had an easy time in the first round. He did not have a bye in the second round, but he did have something similar. Altmaier enjoyed a walk-over when Taylor Fritz pulled out of the tournament.

Rune remains a somewhat tough player to read. He has not been good in a lot of tournaments he has entered in recent months. However, he did do well last week in Basel. He made the semifinals, only falling to the tournament’s eventual champion. Bettors will have to assume that we’re going to be seeing a stronger version of Rune than what we saw for most of the last few months.

Rune hired Boris Becker recently, a move that should help stabilize the World No. 7’s game. It’s plausible enough that Rune had a good tournament last week because he hired Becker. Rune has gone 4-1 since the news after a really bad patch where he struggled for victories.

Rune vs Altmaier Prediction: Rune to win 2-0

Altmaier does not look like he belongs at this stage of the Paris Masters. Heading into the event, he had suffered losses in a string of events in the first round. His first-round win over Arthur Fils was a big upset, not something we can expect on a regular basis. Then the walk-over win got Altmaier to where he is.

Rune will probably win this match in straight sets. Bettors should be taking him at -138 for that 2-0 result (bet365).
