HOUSTON – The University of Houston tennis program continues fall action as the team splits to compete in the Texas A&M Fall Invitational and Rice Invite beginning Friday.
At Rice, Friday’s action begins at 10 a.m., with doubles followed by singles action. Saturday and Sunday are slated for a 9 a.m. start with the same format.
Gabriela Cortes, Elena Trencheva, Sonya Kovalenko and Sophie Schouten will head to College Station, Texas, while Blanca Cortijo Parreno, Nina Skoric, Maria Dzemeshkevich and Laura Slisane will travel across town to Rice.
Kovalenko paces the team with four singles wins after two weeks of play. Cortes, Schouten and Trencheva have each compiled four doubles wins to lead the team.
LAST TIME OUT
The Cougars had a solid showing at the ITA Texas Regionals. Skoric and Cortijo Parreno teamed up to collect a pair of doubles victories to lead the Cougars. Cortes, Kovalenko, Schouten and Trencheva each picked up a doubles win.
Kovalenko, Schouten, Trencheva and Skoric recorded the four singles wins for Houston at the tournament.
