Taking your dog to work is supposed to be fun, but one owner has shown that it isn’t always the ideal solution after her pet turned her car into his very own escape room.
While Aislynne Boland headed into work on October 10, she left her German wirehaired pointer, named Kaiser, tied up outside near her car. Although it was a last-minute decision, she left her dog with some toys and water, and she propped the boot open to provide him with shelter. So what could possibly go wrong?
Despite providing him with ample entertainment, Boland, from Victoria, Australia, was left speechless when she came back to see what Kaiser had been working on, as she told Newsweek that “he decided to remodel the car.”
Kaiser may have had only around 15 minutes to cause the destruction, but it was more than enough for the 1-year-old dog, who seemed incredibly pleased with himself.
Boland said: “We’d just done some enrichment and I ducked into the sheds after securing him, and I didn’t do our wind-down routine. It’s a gradient of slower play until he completes an adrenaline release shake. His brain and body were still wound up and he needed an outlet, something I’m very aware of with high drive and energetic breeds.”
The German wirehaired pointer is known for being a highly energetic breed that requires plenty of outdoor activity to keep them stimulated. The American Kennel Club (AKC) suggests long walks, hikes, and regular training for this breed to prevent undesirable behavior, which can often occur when they are left alone for long periods of time.
When Boland returned to her car, she noticed that the back seat was pushed down, which wasn’t how she left it. She pulled out her phone to record what she discovered, catching her reaction to Kaiser’s new creative design.
As the clip was so hilarious, Boland couldn’t resist sharing it on her TikTok account (@peace_of_aisy), and it has already been viewed more than 7.5 million times. Social-media users can’t get enough of Kaiser’s misbehavior, as the viral post has received almost 250,000 likes and more than 5,600 comments in a matter of days.
“I didn’t have access to my crate that day, so he was thrown on a no-kink chain which was linked onto my car’s tow ball. He was left with two buckets of water, a few toys, parked in the shade, and he had the boot propped open so he could shelter from the high winds,” Boland said.
“He actually pushed through the back seat and managed to get the back passenger door open as well, which ended up being propped open by a Porta Potti he’d pushed off the backseat,” Boland added. “Hence there was no real destruction to the driver’s seat. Kaiser was completely OK, if anything, happy to show me his new career move to interior design.”
When Boland first walked out to her car, he was sleeping in the boot; after all, it must have been exhausting work for him. Thankfully, she was able to see the humor in her dog’s antics, and she was simply relieved that no harm came to him.
While she will continue her training schedule with Kaiser, Boland is also considering some agility sports, too, as a way of expending all his energy.
Among the thousands of comments on the viral TikTok video, Boland was flooded with questions about how Kaiser was able to cause so much destruction, and many joked about how proud the dog looked of his work.
One comment reads: “Why did I know it was a pointer before I even saw the dog.”
Another person wrote: “In his defence, he was bored.”
“Wow, someone got to work,” posted a third.
