1. Back Brevard Hero Fest on Merritt Island
The community is invited to celebrate our local heroes at the First Responder Appreciation Day, also known as Hero Fest, at Brevard Veterans Memorial Center, 400 S. Sykes Creek Pkwy., Merritt Island, on Sunday, May 4 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The family-friendly event will include K-9 demonstrations, a jaws of life demonstration, a meet-and-greet with Sheriff Wayne Ivey, a petting zoo, carnival games and more. 2. ‘Showers & Flowers’ concerts in Palm Bay and Indialantic
The Indialantic Chamber Singers present concerts celebrating spring at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 300 Malabar Road SE, Palm Bay on Friday, May 2 at 7 p.m., and at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 106 N. Riverside Drive, Indialantic on Sunday, May 4 at 3 p.m. The program will include “Over the Rainbow,” “Singin’ in the Rain,” “I Got Rhythm” and Toto’s “Africa.” Admission is free, but there is a suggested donation of $10 to $15. 3. Paws for Cinco de Mayo in Cocoa Village
Bring your canine companion to Milpa Tacos y Tortillas, 207 Brevard Ave., Cocoa Village, on May 4 from 2 to 4 p.m. for “Paws for Cinco de Mayo.” Enjoy raffles, bingo and a 50/50 drawing. For purchase, there will be food, drinks and artist Lori Prell will do caricature drawings and face painting. Proceeds benefit Touch of Grey Rescue. 4. Spin for a Cause in Melbourne
The Spin for a Cause fundraiser will be at West Melbourne Community Park, 3000 Minton Road, West Melbourne, on Sunday, May 4 from noon to 7 p.m. Proceeds will help support a local student who has been given an opportunity to attend the Jr. National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C. The event will include food and refreshments, raffles, live entertainment and activities for all ages. Admission is free. Email [email protected].
5. Space Coast Flute Orchestra concert in Suntree
The Space Coast Flute Orchestra presents a springtime concert reflecting the vibrancy and renewal of the season at Suntree United Methodist Church, 7400 N. Wickham Road, Melbourne, on Sunday, May 4 at 3 p.m. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted. Visit scfo.org.
6. First Friday in EGAD
First Fridays in the Eau Gallie Arts District (EGAD) are a monthly celebration of art, culture and community. Held on the first Friday of every month starting at 5:30 p.m., this event features gallery openings, live music, street vendors and food from local restaurants and bars. Visitors can stroll through the charming historic district, meet local artists, and discover one-of-a-kind works. Visit egadlife.com.
7. Ranger-led tour of Turkey Creek Sanctuary
Turkey Creek Sanctuary, 1518 Port Malabar Blvd NE, Palm Bay, offers free ranger-led tours on the first and third Sundays of each month, excluding holidays, from 10 to 11 a.m. Participants should meet at the sanctuary Nature Center and bring sturdy tennis shoes or boots, sunscreen, insect repellent, water, snacks, binoculars and a hat. Tours will take place on the boardwalk and various trails. Each tour will be led by a park ranger and will focus on common plants and animals found in the sanctuary. Total distance for tours is approximately 1 to 1.5 miles and should take about 1 hour to 1 1/4 hours to complete. Admission is free. To sign up, call the Nature Center at 321-676-6690.
