The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk’s summer of programmed events begins with something new. On Saturday, May 17, the Boardwalk will launch its first-ever drone show in the night sky over Main Beach.
The drone show will serve as a kickoff to the Boardwalk’s summer of activities, which features most prominently the return of its Free Movies on the Beach series. Each Friday evening beginning June 13, the Boardwalk hosts a free movie on Main Beach. The series opens with the ultimate Santa Cruz movie, “The Lost Boys.” Also on the schedule will be the original “Ghostbusters,” “Clueless,” “The Wizard of Oz” and more. (There will be no movie on July 4.)
The Boardwalk will fill in the other days of the week with a variety of events at its Evenings on the Colonnade series. That series will include magicians and acrobats on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, live music on Thursdays, and DJ dance parties on Saturdays and Sundays. Admission is free.
