LACONIA — The Lakes Region Scholarship Foundation has announced the winners of the Annalee Thorndike Art Competition Scholarships. The competition involved students from area high schools, all of whom are graduating seniors and are planning to major in art or an art-related field such as graphic arts, digital arts, architecture, and art education.
This is the 23 year that scholarships have been awarded with funds provided by the Annalee Thorndike Scholarship Fund.
The students submit a blended portfolio that comprises five original works of art which can include: drawings, paintings, collage and print forms, photography, digital art forms and 3D works. They also provide a personal sketchbook and an artist statement.
The artwork was on display at the Gilford Public Library for public viewing. This year’s judges Gerri Harvey, Tom Lynch, and Nancy Dirubbo all have a background in art. First place this year went to Benjamin Bousquet. Second place went to Hazel Dassori-Kaye. Third place was awarded to Awnya Johnson, from Laconia High School, and fourth place went to Katie Scadova. Bousquet, Dassori-Kaye and Scadova are all from Inter-Lakes Middle/High School in Meredith. The awards will be applied toward their tuition in the fall.
