Community Comes Together to Celebrate New Mural

Some people can pass a bare wall and see nothing but a building’s exterior and keep walking. An artist will see the blank wall and envision a colorful canvas begging to be painted. That is what happened with Manager and artist Stacy Grice.

There was a bare wall on the side of the Pierce Furniture that needed a story to be told. Art is an expression of the artist and at the same time, it is a gift to the person who is the recipient.

“This mural is more than just paint on a wall — it’s a reminder that our community thrives because of the people who care, whether through art, service, or everyday acts of involvement. We encourage everyone to stop by 901 East Broadway and snap a photo with this vibrant new landmark!” The City of Sweetwater expressed on their social media page.

To celebrate the occasion, students from Sweetwater Intermediate School, their teachers, Pierce Furniture employees, KXOX Radio, City of  Sweetwater employees, members of the Police Department, their K-9 unit, Sweetwater Fire Chief Tad Baird and firefighters as well as members of the WASP World War Two Museum and the artist herself all turned out to be part of the unveiling of the Pierce Furniture mural.

The word mural originates from the Latin word “murus”, meaning wall.

The mural is a 30,000 foot view, per se, of Sweetwater and Nolan County, its history and representations.

There are cross-section depictions of life in West Texas as well.

At the beginning of the mural, there are the origins of Texas, bluebonnets, longhorns, cowboys and rustlers…
