See artwork by students from across Fall River at Narrows Center for the Arts: Here’s how


There’s a special exhibit currently on view at the Narrows Center for the Arts, 16 Anawan St., Fall River, with the chance to see it for a few more days.

Currently, there is a district-wide art show, featuring work by students from schools across Fall River.

And the artists are all-ages too, with work being featured from students in grades K through 12.

The Narrows Center, a local hub for the arts, has teamed up with Fall River Public Schools for the first time to make this happen, a collaboration that is sure to nourish a love for the arts in community members of all ages.

How and when to see Fall River Public Schools Art at the Narrows

The Fall River Public Schools Art exhibit will be is at the Narrows now through May 17.

A reception and jazz concert celebrating the exhibit was held on May 13, featuring the Hilltopper Jazz Band from B.M.C. Durfee High School, led by Julia Klinger.

About the exhibit: Fall River Public Schools teams up with the Narrows

The Fall River Public Schools art show is “the first district-wide art show of its kind at the Narrows Center for the Arts,” according to a statement by Fall River Public Schools Director of Fine and Performing Arts K-12 Joseph Fontinha.

“We are excited to partner with a pillar of both the community and the arts like the Narrows, as we put our best artistic foot forward,” Fontinha’s statement said.

“The Narrows Center has long championed and supported arts education and all the wonderful and creative benefits arts culture adds to young minds,” Narrows Gallery Director Debra Charlebois said in a statement provided to The Herald News from the Narrows Center for the Arts. “We are pleased to present this outstanding display of extraordinary artwork in our gallery, nearly 500 pieces of drawings, ceramics, paintings, sculpture and fashion. The arts are vibrantly alive and well in the Fall River Public Schools. We welcome you to visit the Narrows to celebrate this work and the young artists’ spectacular achievements.”

Fontinha, in a press release sent to The Herald News by the Narrows Center for the Arts, noted that the exhibit is meant to showcase the breadth of visual arts programs in Fall River schools by highlighting the work of these local students.

This exhibit features work by students from 18 schools, from pre-K to 12th grade.

The press release described the exhibit as a “highly curated” body of work (with three to five artworks per 100 kids), and called it “a testament to the structural support of Fall River Schools and their commitment to arts education.”

Which schools are participating in the exhibit?

Students come from all over the city, and participating schools in this exhibit include:

  • Samuel Watson Elementary
  • Mary L. Fonseca Elementary

  • Henry Lord Community School
  • Stone Therapeutic Day School
  • Edmond P. Talbot Middle School
  • James Madison Morton Middle School
  • Matthew J. Kuss Middle School
  • B.M.C. Durfee High School
  • Resiliency Preparatory Academy
  • Pre-K Early Learning Centers

How were the artworks selected?

The artworks in the exhibit were selected and presented by the 28 visual arts teachers “that make up our staff, and we are very proud of all the students that are included,” Fontinha’s press release said. “This is a very special culminating event, made possible by our students, teachers, schools, administration, and broader community. A huge thanks to the Narrows for welcoming us with open arms!”

Gallery admission and hours

Gallery admission is free, and the gallery is open Thursday to Saturday, from noon to 5 p.m.
